Womens Tibet Soccer
I was invited to shoot the first ever female sports team of any kind from Tibet. Their visas were denied by the US government after being invited to an internation tournament in Dallas. They were subsequently invited to a different tournament in Vancouver, B.C. I was very humbled to have been in the presence of these women who have defied, with unwavering courage, all the odds set against them.
I am however sad to say they have had to disband. I spoke with team manager, Cassie Childers and she said it was becoming too dangerous for the girls to continue playing. A reminder there are still places in the world where it is unsafe for a woman to play sports. It is a threat to their life to run, get exercise, be with friends and feel empowered. Huge heart pains and love going out to these brave teenagers. May their path in life be forever altered by the pure joy of sport and play.
